Spiderman PS4 is one of the most anticipated games that we saw at E3 2018 and the devs behind it are not really known for creating brawler games. Insomniac, the developer behind Spiderman PS4 is known for shooters. So you can imagine that there was a bit of a challenge and a learning curve involved in the process of making Spiderman PS4.

Creative Director Bryan Intihar talked about one of the biggest challenges of making Spiderman PS4 and the following is what he had to say in this regard:

While we had Feral Rites in development around the same time as Spider-Man, we didn’t have a ton of experience making a third-person brawler where you’re using melee and other devices in combat at Insomniac.

Like I mentioned this is not the area of expertise for the developer but this is Insomniac that we are talking about here. Lack of experience is not going to bring down the dev. Intihar further went on to mention the following:

You look at Ratchet, you look at Resistance and you look at Sunset Overdrive…We’re a big shooter company, and we’re really well known for our creative weapons. It definitely was a little bit of a learning curve. We asked ourselves really early on, ‘well, what can Spider-Man do that others can’t?’ and then the world improvisation started to come up a lot.

He also talked about how the devs got help from a local stunts expert and how they focused on the web works and keeping Spiderman in the air as much as possible. He talked about the benefits of living in Los Angeles and how that helped in the development of Spiderman PS4. He further went on to mention the following:

You know, it’s hard to get someone to actually swing kick in real life. But the benefits of living in Los Angeles is that we have a lot of great stunt people who live here, and we’ve had people who have done many amazing superhero things, and it’s amazing to see what they can do when they’re just flipping around. So it’s actually a combination of both.

The combat element was very tough indeed according to him and he mentioned how hard the teamed worked in order to get things right. The following is what he had to say in this regard:

The combat team at Insomniac worked their butts off to get this right. It was extremely hard; it was, in terms of overall development, definitely one of our greatest challenges.

The devs also talked about the role of Mary Jane. From what we have seen so far, the game looks pretty impressive and keeping in mind that this is a game from Insomniac, we expect nothing less. For more information regarding Spiderman PS4, stay tuned.
