Barnaby Joyce no longer has doubts about paternity of his son Sebastian

AMID what is no doubt a joyous occasion for the embattled former Deputy Prime Minister, Barnaby Joyce has settled the question of whether the baby is actually his.

“We are very happy and just taking it quietly,” Mr Joyce told Fairfax Media yesterday after the announcement of the birth of baby Sebastian.

Sebastian Joyce was born at Armidale Hospital on Monday weighing 3.8 kilograms.

When asked if the birth removed any doubts about the baby being his, Mr Joyce said “Yes.” Former staffer and first-time mum Vikki Campion, 33, must be relieved after Mr Joyce previously questioned the paternity of the child saying he wasn’t sure he was the father of Ms Campion’s baby.

Mr Joyce had initially cast doubt about whether he could have fathered the child due to the fact that he was travelling in Britain, Belgium, The Netherlands and Italy between June 23 and July 5 — around the time of conception.

He is said to be happy and in love with Ms Campion, his former staff member, and had taken personal leave to spend time with his new family.

Mr Joyce had previously complained about what he described as the media’s breach of his and Ms Campion’s privacy declaring the child’s paternity was “nobody else’s business.”

Mr Joyce lost his cabinet position and the Nationals leadership after it was revealed he and Ms Campion were expecting a child.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull later introduced a ban on ministers having sexual relations with their staff after the scandal unfolded.

This is the fifth child for Mr Joyce, and his first son, but the first baby for Ms Campion.

Mr Joyce is still married but separated from his first wife, Natalie. They had four girls together: Julia, Caroline, Odette and Bridgette.
