After Batman: The Long Halloween, the next DC animated movie is Injustice. Since the release of Superman: Doomsday in 2007, DC has consistently been releasing animated features based on its iconic properties. Coming up, the company will be releasing a two-part adaptation of The Long Halloween, one of the most acclaimed Batman stories.

In 2013, Injustice: Gods Among Us released on video game consoles. The gameplay was developed by Mortal Kombat's NetherRealm Studios, so it is a memorable competitive fighter. However, arguably the most notable aspect of the title is its original plot. The story takes place on an Earth when Superman became dictator after the Joker tricked him into killing Lois Lane. In the backstory, Superman kills Joker in revenge, setting the Man of Steel on his path to global leadership. The Batman of this world summons the Justice League from the main universe to combat Superman and his followers. The comic book prequel details the events leading up to the game.

DC is releasing an Injustice animated feature. One of the special features on the Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two release will contain a sneak peak at the film. There is no word yet on a release date. However, it is teased as the next DC animated film after the two-part Batman: The Long Halloween.

It's also not known what the Injustice animated film will adapt specifically. If it adapts the game, it will feature the Justice League of the main universe fighting to take down Superman. However, it could also go the comic book route and adapt the beginning of the saga, showing Superman's downfall into world dictator, and Batman leading a resistance. There are certainly enough comics for more than one movie adaption. Injustice: Gods Among Us received a sequel game in 2017, continuing the storyline. There are definitely different ways the animated film can go.

The storyline of Injustice, which pits many of DC's characters against each other, is very interesting to watch unfold. The comics feature plenty of great character moments, such as Alfred beating up Superman. If the movie adapts the comics or game faithfully, fans are in for a treat. However, it's possible the film could be a loose adaption as well, grabbing elements from the plot, and doing its own thing. If so, it could be an interesting take on the story. Fans will know more when they can see the sneak peek when Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two releases on July 27.
