Writer/director, James Gunn, has revealed his favorite costume from the ensemble roster of The Suicide Squad. Acting as a standalone sequel to David Ayer's 2016 blockbuster, the story centers on the titular group of inmates from Belle Reve as they are tasked with heading to the South American island of Corto Maltese to destroy the Nazi-era prison and laboratory, Jotunheim. The ensemble cast includes the returns of Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman, as well as the introductions of Idris Elba, Sylvester Stallone, John Cena, Peter Capaldi, and Michael Rooker.

Following the box office success of the first Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. fast-tracked development of a sequel and numerous spin-offs, with Ayer expected to return alongside original star, Will Smith. However, due to creative differences between the studio and Ayer, the writer/director departed and a search began for a new helmer, eventually landing Gunn to write and subsequently direct after his initial split with Marvel Studios. Though Marvel would reconnect with Gunn the following day, he was still allotted the opportunity by Kevin Feige to make the DC Extended Universe film before returning to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Unlike some films releasing this year, namely from WB, the film did not suffer from COVID-19-related release delays but is set to debut simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters.

After describing his love and appreciation for costume designer, Judianna Makovsky, and her team for their work bringing Elba's Bloodsport to life with his outfit, a fan asked Gunn on Twitter which character's costume was his favorite of the roster of characters on the film. Gunn responded confirming Dastmalchian's Polka-Dot Man remains his favorite, particularly for Makovsky's ability to bring his vision for life on the first try. Check out Gunn's revelation below:

While fans have been thoroughly excited about the roster of new and returning characters to the film, Dastmalchian's Polka-Dot Man has been one of the most-talked about of the bunch. From his desire for death to his outlandish costume and the actor's past in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the Ant-Man series, viewers have been laughing and also clamoring to learn more about the character. Given Gunn's flair for offbeat humor and characters, it should come as no surprise Polka-Dot Man's costume was his favorite to design.

The only real concern fans should have is whether this love for designing the character's costume carries over into Gunn making the effort to keep him alive at the end of the story. Proudly boasting he was given free reign of who to kill off, the trailers seem pretty clear on who Gunn wants to keep alive for the film. However, with the posters frequently reminding fans not to get too attached, Polka-Dot Man's fate is certainly up in the air. Fans will have to wait with bated breath until The Suicide Squad hits theaters and HBO Max this August.
