Zack Snyder's new movie, Horse Latitudes, will have to wait a little longer before it can begin production. Originally titled The Last Photograph, Snyder was first attached to direct the project in 2011. The plan was for Snyder to direct the drama after he was finished with Man of Steel, but he opted to continue working on the DCEU for two more installments, Batman V Superman and Justice League. A lot has changed in Snyder's professional and personal life since then, and now he is getting back to passion projects based on original ideas after his final bow to the DCEU, the Snyder Cut of Justice League, came in March.

With Snyder postponing his adaptation of Ayn Rand's novel The Fountainhead because of the current political climate, Horse Latitudes will seemingly be his next project after Army of Dead releases on Netflix later this month. While two prequels to Army of the Dead are already on the way, which Snyder had a hand in developing, it seems the plan for him is to get behind the camera next with Horse Latitudes, which he originally began developing under the title The Last Photograph in 2007. The film is clearly a passion project for Snyder, which is expected to be lower-budgeted and a drastic change of pace from his blockbuster DCEU epics and zombie flicks.

Now, Snyder says he will have to wait even longer before shooting Horse Latitudes, which follows two men who are inspired by a photograph to travel to South America. Snyder plans to shoot on location in South America, but according to the director, the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic in that part of the world is preventing them from traveling and filming there. Therefore, production of Horse Latitudes will have to wait for an indefinite amount of time. Here’s what Snyder had to say about his upcoming film:

Oh, yeah. Right now, we're just waiting a little bit, because the hope is to shoot that movie in South America. Because COVID right now is pretty intense in that part of the world, so we're just waiting for hopefully some relief in order to get up and make that one. Although I do have another thing that I'm working on right now. Hopefully, we'll see if that comes together. Because it's pretty crazy.

Snyder included a rather big, albeit vague reveal at the end of his answer, which will likely lead to intense speculation about what the director is cooking up next. Other than his postponed Fountainhead adaptation or another chapter in his Armyverse saga, Snyder has talked about doing a faithful adaptation of the King Arthur mythology, but it’s unlikely that’s what the director is referring to here. Instead, it sounds like Snyder has a secret "crazy" project in the works that he may or may not be revealing in the future, depending on if it ever comes together.

Snyder has acquired a loyal legion of fans from his work on the DCEU (evidenced by the enthusiastic #ReleaseTheSnyderCut and #RestoreTheSnyderVerse campaigns on social media) who are likely interested in anything the director does next. While there is some uncertainty regarding what that will be, for now, fans should expect Horse Latitudes to be his next project.
