A24 has released a brand new trailer for The Green Knight starring Dev Patel. Directed by David Lowery, who previously worked with the arthouse studio on A Ghost Story, The Green Knight will tell the story of Sir Gawain (Patel), King Arthur's nephew, who is sent on a quest to confront the titular, green-skinned giant. Joel Edgerton, Alicia Vikander, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan, and Erin Kellyman round out the cast. The movie itself is based on a 14th century poem titled "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight," but Lowery set out to update the tale for modern audiences.

Originally, The Green Knight was set to release in theaters on May 29, 2020 after premiering at South by Southwest. Like most movies in 2020, The Green Knight was pulled from the release calendar. To many, the film seemed prime for a PVOD or streaming release, with A24 likely to pick up a decent amount of money for the film. The studio held on to the film, though, releasing only one teaser. Recently, in addition to the teaser, The Green Knight received a slew of character posters showing off the cast of the film.

With the studio gearing up to release the film in just a few short months, The Green Knight's promotional cycle is in full swing. A24 has released a new trailer for the film that previews Sir Gawain's quest. Lowery's fantasy world is on full display in the trailer, from giant figures roaming a rocky field to a talking fox companion, all of which Gawain encounters on his way to meet the Green Knight once again. Check out the clip below:

Lowery's take on the Arthurian legend is moody and atmospheric, akin to his previous work on the aforementioned A Ghost Story. The dark, ominous tone is more in line with A24's horror slate than a typical fantasy film, but it works for Patel's journey, one filled with danger and mystery. Along the way, Sir Gawain will encounter thieves, ghosts, and various other threats that will make it that much harder for him to to reach the mythical figure he is searching for. Gawain is historically headstrong and, in the clip shown, Patel is steadfast in his quest.

While most audiences may be starving for blockbuster fare this summer (of which there will be plenty), The Green Knight will serve as an interesting alternative. A24 is known for their non-mainstream fare, even if it has made the studio somewhat mainstream in the process, but The Green Knight looks to be just weird and wild enough to counteract most of what's coming to screens this summer and should be an exciting addition to the theatrical slate.
