Michael B. Jordan praises the official title of Marvel's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Jordan joined the MCU for 2018's Black Panther, portraying the deadly Erik Killmonger. He squared off against Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa for the film, and his relatable motivations made him one of the very best MCU villains yet. Tragically, however, Killmonger died at the end of Black Panther, and Jordan recently cast doubt on a potential return in the sequel. Black Panther 2 has yet to begin filming, but is expected to do so in the coming months.

Just this week, Black Panther 2 received its official title: Wakanda Forever. For many, it's a fitting name for a movie expected to pay tribute the late Boseman, who became a cultural icon after Black Panther. Boseman passed away last August after a years-long battle with colon cancer. Recently, his co-star Lupita Nyong'o discussed how Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has been reshaped to respect Boseman's loss, with writer-director Ryan Coogler taking great care to honor Boseman and his legacy.

On the day Marvel announced Black Panther 2 to be called Wakanda Forever, Jordan was speaking to Variety about his new film Without Remorse. The interviewer broke the news about the title to him, and Jordan was very clearly pleased with the decision. He said:

“Nice. Awesome. I like that… Marvel does great, amazing work and the characters are awesome. We all took a hit with the loss of Chadwick, so for them trying to figure out how to move forward, I know it’s not an easy thing to do. So the fact that they settled on a title and figuring out this story, I think is truly incredible. If anybody could figure it out, it’s Ryan Coogler and Kevin Feige.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was announced in the middle of an epic Phase 4 trailer, which also revealed additional titles and release dates for upcoming films, as well as the first footage for Eternals. It also included an emotional montage of past Marvel movies set to a monologue from Stan Lee. At one point, when Lee says "That man next to you, he’s your brother," the video showed Boseman and Jordan in a scene from Black Panther. During that same interview, Jordan learned of this moment, and he got choked up. "Wow. Stan Lee saying that?" he said. "I got to check it out."

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be an emotional experience for all involved, there's no doubt about it. Boseman was an incredible figure who was taken away far too soon, and while it will be strange to have a Black Panther movie without T'Challa himself, it can go a long way to providing closure to those who love him. Marvel has remained mum about the plot for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, only releasing a synopsis that promises a greater exploration of the world of Wakanda and its people. It isn't yet clear as to how the movie will handle Boseman's passing, but the title has already gone a long way in reaffirming his enduring legacy. Just like Jordan said, that's pretty incredible.
