Brie Larson explains why she's getting into superhero shape for The Marvels, aka Captain Marvel 2. Oscar winner Larson made her MCU debut in 2019's Captain Marvel, though her arrival was hyped up well before then. As Carol Danvers, Larson became the first woman to lead her own MCU movie. She then went on to play a small, but pivotal role in Avengers: Endgame a few months later, and she will be seen next in Captain Marvel 2, which is currently scheduled for release in November 2022. As of yesterday, the sequel is officially titled The Marvels.

Though plot details are still being kept under wraps, the handful of casting announcements that have been made for The Marvels provide some clues about the meaning of the title. Carol will be joined by Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) for this installment, potentially making for quite the superpowered trio. They will be squaring off against an unknown villain played by Zawe Ashton (Velvet Buzzsaw); beyond that, little else is known. Nia DaCosta will serve as director, and The Marvels will reportedly begin filming at the end of this month.

As the start of production on The Marvels nears, Larson has documented some of her training on social media. While talking to the NYT about her superhero workouts, she explained why she's pushing herself so hard in real life. "I just wanted to feel like in the human realm I could accomplish what she was doing in this superhero realm," Larson said. "And it helped me inform the character. It didn’t make sense to just stand there and be like, ‘The C.G.I. will take care of this.’"

Larson shared some impressive training videos for the first Captain Marvel, and she's keeping up the tradition now with the sequel. She's hardly the first MCU star to pull back the curtain on her workouts, with Chris Hemsworth and Jeremy Renner sharing behind the scenes shots in recent months. Larson's reasoning for committing to the superhero shape is admirable, though, and it's interesting to hear her workouts have even helped inform her character. CGI can go a long way, but it's smart to keep things grounded in reality as well.

Larson certainly knows a thing or two about CGI enhancements, since Carol's MCU abilities stretch far beyond the realm of what is actually possible. Captain Marvel cemented Carol as one of the most powerful heroes in the franchise, and The Marvels will have to maintain that while stopping her from being too invincible. That's quite a task ahead, but Larson and DaCosta appear to be up to it. Larson has already heaped a lot of praise on DaCosta, and there's much anticipation in seeing how she'll move Carol's story forward. Larson is busy getting ready for her next MCU appearance, and hopefully she'll reveal some new details about the movie soon.
