A new image from Disney’s upcoming Jungle Cruise film teases Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt’s river adventure. Initially announced in 2011 with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen rumored to be on board, the film has seen numerous delays. Now just a couple of months away from its release, Jungle Cruise is shaping up to be a big summer hit.

The past two decades have seen extensive growth for Disney, with the famed studio purchasing several media corporations and production companies, including 21st Century Fox and LucasFilm. Yet despite having so many popular and beloved IPs now under the Disney umbrella, the Mouse House has also managed to find considerable success with its own properties. Reboots have proved worthwhile for the most part, but Disney has also discovered the hit potential of adapting their animated catalog into live-action films. In addition to this, there are plans to turn iconic Disneyland rides like Space Mountain, and It’s A Small World into films. Disney has triumphed with this model in the past, and the upcoming Jungle Cruise will aim to repeat that success in an all-new adventure.

A big part of Jungle Cruise’s appeal undoubtedly comes down to Johnson’s involvement. Emily Blunt has also become synonymous with Disney after starring as Mary Poppins in 2018’s Mary Poppins Returns. However, fans of both stars have been eager to see what the pair can bring to Jungle Cruise. It’s certainly been a long wait for the film’s arrival, but at long last, it feels as though this cruise is finally setting sail. Adding to this feeling of excitement is a new image from the film, courtesy of USA Today:

Jungle Cruise has been billed as an old-school adventure film and has primarily lived up to this reputation in the trailers and images seen so far. This latest image continues in that vein, suggesting that Johnson and Blunt’s characters end up finding far more than they bargained for in the jungle. Like so many other 2021 films due to be released, the Covid-19 pandemic created huge hurdles for Jungle Cruise. Disney avoided a streaming-only release to hold out for a theatrical debut in which the family-friendly adventure could offer more of a celebratory atmosphere. It seems that Disney is banking on a sizeable hit with Jungle Cruise and hopes of a franchise beyond that.

Though it might seem strange to build a film franchise off of Disneyland’s tamest attractions, Jungle Cruise could very well end up being a huge hit. With cinemas set to open in increasing numbers over the summer, the film looks like the sort of summer event that will get people back into theatres. Likely offering something for everyone in that inimitable Disney way, Jungle Cruise could be the sort of good time that the world needs after such a long time away from cinemas and the magic of the movies.
