A documentary film about Anthony Bourdain will release this summer. Bourdain was an American chef, author, and travel journalist known for incorporating his knowledge of international cuisine with his passion for humanitarianism. He notably served as the executive chef at New York City's Brasserie Les Halles. As a television personality, he hosted A Cook's Tour on Food Network, the Travel Channel's Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, and CNN's Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown – all three programs married Bourdain's culinary expertise with his passion for world travel. Bourdain shockingly passed away in June 2018 at the age of 61.

The documentary, aptly titled Roadrunner, will premiere in movie theaters on July 16. The film will also be available to stream on HBO Max and CNN for those not yet comfortable attending a movie in theaters. According to a promotional release, cited by UPROXX, Roadrunner will explore the “uncommon life of the late storyteller, explorer, and chef, Anthony Bourdain.”

The documentary is directed by Morgan Neville, who won an Oscar for his work on 20 Feet From Stardom (2013) – the film exposed the lives of backup singers in the music industry. Neville recently directed Won't You Be My Neighbor (2018), which detailed the legacy of Fred Rogers, host of children's television show Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.

While much of Bourdain's legacy is left behind in his books and television work, the world still has much healing to do after his sudden and tragic death in 2018. With Neville's experience in dissecting the lives of famous humanitarians while also paying homage to them, Roadrunner is likely to encapsulate Bourdain's life and experiences well. Additionally, as the world continues to heal from the extensive effects of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and consequential political uproar, viewers will find comfort in Bourdain's beautiful words and erudite commentary of global experiences. Roadrunner is sure to capture audiences' hearts and minds when it premieres this coming July.
