A Quiet Place Part II's opening weekend box office could match the original movie's debut. The anticipated horror sequel was originally slated for release in 2020 and was in the midst of its marketing campaign when the coronavirus pandemic started, forcing Paramount to delay the film. A Quiet Place 2 is currently scheduled to come out in May over Memorial Day weekend. For now, anyway, Paramount appears set on keeping the movie in that window. A Quiet Place 2 was not among the several Paramount movies to get new release dates recently.

After enduring a very difficult 2020, the film industry saw some positive signs with Godzilla vs. Kong's box office performance. Despite being available to stream on HBO Max and coming out at a time when theater capacity is limited, the MonsterVerse installment has tallied $390.9 million worldwide so far, eclipsing Godzilla: King of the Monsters' global total. That gave exhibitors and studios hope the box office was on the path to recovery, and the first A Quiet Place 2 estimates should do the same.

Per Box Office Pro, A Quiet Place 2 is projected to gross between $30-50 million domestically in its opening weekend. If it hits the high end of those estimates, it potentially could match the original Quiet Place's start of $50.2 million.

There's still more than a month remaining until A Quiet Place 2's premiere, so these figures are likely to fluctuate between now and the film's opening weekend. Still, this is a very encouraging development, suggesting the box office could see another healthy hit in the very near future. If A Quiet Place 2 manages to come close to $50 million domestically, it would be quite an achievement. Obviously, the first movie reached that mark long before the pandemic, where there were no limits on theater attendance. Even as venues increase capacity and more people are vaccinated against COVID-19, there are still a number of variables that could affect A Quiet Place 2's performance. It will be interesting to see how the film's tracking evolves over the next month.

The original Quiet Place was one of 2018's most acclaimed films, and by all accounts the sequel was set to deliver another thrilling experience. Early A Quiet Place 2 reactions actually made the rounds online about a week prior to the pandemic, praising director John Krasinski for crafting a tense and worthy followup. That word-of-mouth will likely raise anticipation for A Quiet Place 2 when it enters theaters. What's more is A Quiet Place 2 won't be available on any streaming platforms until 45 days after its theatrical debut, meaning those who are excited to see the film will have to decide between waiting (and possibly getting spoiled) or seeing it on the big screen if they're comfortable. That release model could improve A Quiet Place 2's box office prospects.
