Doctor Strange 2 Is Bonkers With A Horror Show Vibe Says Star

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a bonkers horror show, according to star Elizabeth Olsen. Olsen will be reprising her role as Scarlet Witch in the highly anticipated sequel after her fan-favorite run in Marvel's first Disney+ series WandaVision. Benedict Cumberbatch will be back as Stephen Strange after the Sorcerer Supreme made his original debut in 2016. Dr. Strange has appeared in various other MCU films since then, but this will be his second solo outing, and it may just be one of the most anticipated films of Marvel's Phase 4 slate.

The title alone has fans excited as Marvel looks set to crack the Multiverse wide open after teasing its existence in previous films. Many thought WandaVision would be the series to do so, but while the show may not have directly introduced the Multiverse, it set Scarlet Witch on a path that could lead to her opening the doors to horrific new worlds. Marvel has made it clear that the film will lean into a horror vibe with Sam Raimi directing, and Olsen confirms as much in a recent interview.

Talking to Glamour Magazine UK, Olsen touched briefly on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, touting it as a "bonkers" film. She says the studio is going for a "horror show vibe" with the film currently in production in the UK. Naturally, Olsen couldn't give away too much about the sequel as much of the plot remains under wraps.

Raimi is an icon of the horror genre, so the fact that the Doctor Strange sequel is under his guidance is exciting in and of itself. Still, what the horror show vibe means for the film remains a mysterious element to what will likely be an epic film. After WandaVision, Scarlet Witch has found herself in a powerful position, studying the Darkhold and coming into her own as a user of Chaos Magic. It certainly seems as if the film is setting up Wanda to be a villain or at least in opposition to the Sorcerer Supreme.

WandaVision's post-credits scene seemed to indicate that her twins, Billy and Tommy, will play a role in the film, and rumors have swirled that the actors who portrayed them have been spotted in the UK. It seems that Wanda will inadvertently unleash more chaos on the world when she goes looking for Billy and Tommy in the Multiverse, running into America Chavez in the process. What shape these horrors will take remains unclear, but with Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness close to wrapping production, more details will begin to emerge as to what's in store for the film.
