Without Remorse featurette explores Tom Clancy’s source material

With just two weeks left until the film’s arrival on the streaming platform, Amazon Prime video has unveiled a new featurette from the Michael B. Jordan-led adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse that explores the source material and the character’s past iterations and future with Jordan. The featurette can be viewed in the player below!

Without Remorse centers on Sr. Chief John Kelly pursuing a squad of Russian soldiers who assassinated his family in retaliation for his role in a top-secret operation and joins forces with a fellow SEAL and shadowy CIA agent, though his personal mission leads to him stumbling upon a cover plot threatening to plunge the U.S. and Russia into all-out war. As he finds himself torn between personal honor and loyalty to his country, Kelly must fight his enemies without remorse if he hopes to avert disaster and reveal the powerful figures behind the conspiracy.

The ensemble cast for the film is led by Jordan (Black Panther) alongside Jamie Bell, Luke Mitchell, Cam Gigandet, Jodie Turner-Smith, Jacob Scipio, Brett Gelman, Jack Kesy, Colman Domingo, Lauren London, Todd Lasance and Guy Pearce.

Without Remorse, the explosive origin story of Clancy’s iconic action hero John Clark, is directed by Stefano Sollima on a script from Taylor Sheridan (Sicario) and Will Staples (The Right Stuff) and produced by Jordan, Akiva Goldsman (Transformers), Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec.

Development of the film has been underway since the ’90s when Sony Pictures initially acquired the rights to the novel and sought Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Gary Sinise to star at various points, though eventually shifted to Paramount Pictures in 2012 with Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible — Fallout) set to helm and Tom Hardy (Venom) set to star while Kevin Costner would reprise his role from Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. After languishing in development hell, the film found new life in 2017 when Akiva Goldsman began development on an adaptation of Clancy’s Rainbow Six, in which Clark is a key character, and Jordan signed on to the role in a two-part series beginning with Remorse.

After being sold to Amazon Studios due to the global pandemic keeping theaters shut down, Without Remorse is set to hit the streaming platform on April 30, though whether development is continuing on Rainbow Six is currently unknown.

John Clark has appeared in a number of Tom Clancy’s novels dating back to 1988’s The Cardinal and the Kremlin, as the darker side of the Jack Ryan character who works primarily in the field and typically operates by his own personal brand of ethics. The character was played by Willem Dafoe in Clear and Present Danger, starring Harrison Ford, and by Liev Schreiber in The Sum of All Fears starring Ben Affleck.
